Systems Developer

Job Description


  • Helping transition legacy bespoke management systems and databases to a new platform and SQL server.
  • Creating bespoke management systems to manipulate and analyse data from marketing campaigns and staff productivity
  • Create bespoke database solutions for various marketing campaigns for individual clients with specific needs. Includes reporting, data structure and data returns as well as specific user interface needs.
  • Creating systems to better utilise and enrich data captured on campaigns to add value for clients.
  • Restructuring IT infrastructure and data systems with a view to driving continuous improvement and ensuring our technological solutions are ‘keeping up with the times’
  • Data preparation and processing
  • Database Maintenance
  • Data structuring, cleanse and normalisation
  • Supporting precision data processes (accuracy essential)
  • Troubleshooting – IT support (daily communication with colleagues)
  • Any other duty as required by the line manager, commensurate with the post


Person Specification (essential criteria)




  • A good degree (2:1 or above) in Computing / Computer Science


Programming languages


  • Proficiency in a C-based language
  • Proficiency in SQL


Skills-based competencies


  • Writing code to provide functionality for new management systems
  • Modifying, developing and fixing existing management systems
  • Relational database design and structure in SQL
  • Writing and using complex queries
  • Data manipulation
  • Employing good coding practices
  • Working with Microsoft Access and Excel

Job Title:                                             Systems Developer

Contract type:                                   Full-time, permanent with a probationary period (2 months)

Working Pattern:                             Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm; flexible)

Hours per week:                              40 hours per week (Monday – Fri); full time as required to meet business needs, including a 45 minute lunch break

Rate of Pay:                                        Salary range £28k - £32k P/A plus profit & performance related bonus (OTE 30% of salary)

Pension:                                              Employer Pension Contribution

Holidays:                                             20 paid days of holiday plus bank holidays

Start date:                                           We would like the right candidate to start ASAP

Work location:                                  Durham city centre office(s)
