At 3.15pm a small group will march with banners, from the Town Hall to the Gala and back, giving out suffragette ribbons.

The activity links to ‘Remembering Durham’ – a WW1 photography display at Durham Town Hall - remembering those who lived in County Durham from 1914-1918. This photography project explores the life and work of people in Durham during the First World War, presented by members of the Cheesy Waffles and Wider World Projects, to promote disability awareness in a positive way. The photographs honour the work and lives of people in Durham both away at war and the contribution made at home, particularly by women.

  • Cheesy Waffles Project is a provision for young people with additional needs aged 11 - 30 years living in County Durham, delivering clubs and activities for young people to attend in their leisure time. Young people learn skills through taking part in positive activities that will help them with the transition into adulthood and promote self-awareness, self-esteem and independence'

Reuse not Recycle Competition: We will be running a competition throughout the week awarding prizes to the most creative containers you can design.  Think about reusing rather than recycling an old tin, plastic bottle, pair of wellies, broken kettle etc and create something fun and unique to plant flowers and vegetables in this summer. Why not paint up a pot, jazz up a jar and create something TREE-menous to use!

Bring your finished planter to our planting events during the week and receive free seed and compost  on Tuesday from Durham in Bloom, Vegetable seeds from Age UK County Durham on Wednesday or pick up a plant at one of the plant sales on Elvet Bridge on Thursday and Friday.
