Children from schools and nurseries across Durham have taken part in a project inspired by a campaign shining a light on all that's great about the county.
Pupils taking part in the project
In partnership with our Early Years Team, groups of ten pupils from eight schools were involved in the 'Get into the Light' project where they spent time at Easington Barn, an arts and education centre set in 30 acres of wildflower meadows close to Hawthorn Dene.
The three sessions saw children visit the barn and the dene to explore, play and interact with light through the natural landscape, supported by artist and early years educator Nicola Balfour.
A place to be proud of
Work completed as part of the project will be displayed at the Gala Theatre in Durham during a three-week exhibition running from Thursday, 11 January 2018.
Those involved in the project were:
Cllr Olwyn Gunn, our Cabinet member for children and young people, said: "This project showcases the remarkable beauty of East Durham while raising awareness of the value of play in natural environments.
"The exhibition will be another way of shining a spotlight on our county as a place we should all be proud of and I am looking forward to seeing the pupils' work at Gala in the new year."
