Prior's Hall, Durham Cathedral

10.00am - 1.00pm

Prior's Hall

Professor Richard Gameson (Professor of the History of the Book) will examine key points in the growth of the collection up to the Reformation, including the materials sent to Durham College Oxford (where almost exactly 600 years ago, the monks of Durham were building a splendid new library room). Dr Elizabeth Biggs (Library Fellow) will discuss the fate of the books in the aftermath of the Reformation.
This study morning will be followed by an optional visit to the Cathedral Library to see some of the books that have been discussed.
There is no charge for this study day but a donation of £10 for the morning, or £15 to include the library visit, would be appreciated on the day. As we anticipate high demand, booking is essential or 0191 386 4266 and places on the library visit may have to be capped. A voucher giving 10% discount at the Cathedral restaurant will be available on the day.
