About The Event
The Durham Dash is an urban athletics event giving primary school children the opportunity to compete within the historic city centre.
Pupils will compete in either an urban road race or field events, they cannot compete in both. The road race will start in the Market Place and finish on the Palace Green, a distance of 550m. The field events will be a carousel of activities on the Palace Green, with each child trying all disciplines (Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce, Shot Putt & Chest Push).
Teams will consist of 8 pupils, 1 child in each of the following categories; Y3 girls, Y3 boys, Y4 girls, Y4 boys, Y5 girls, Y5 boys, Y6 girls, Y6 boys.
Event t-shirts for the young athletes will be distributed to each school; they are colour coordinated for each age group to help the staff and volunteers determine the correct race entrants.
Each school will need one teacher/responsible adult to register the team and ensure that they all leave the event safely. It is advisable for each school to bring at least 2 responsible adults; one to be based in the Market Place while the other is in the Palace Green.
In the first instance we will allow entries of up to 3 race teams and 3 field teams per school. Please indicate if you would like to bring extra teams.
Entries will close on Wednesday 26th April 2016.
