Throughout August we will be showcasing some of the fantastic products from our Craft Beer range. We’ve handpicked 12 beers from as far away as California and as close as Houghton-Le-Spring, each week we’ll be offering three different beers for a very special price. On top of this, each Friday in August we’ll be hosting tasting sessions throughout the day to show-off some of the other beers from our Craft Beers selection.
Here’s a run-down of the Craft Beers we’ll be showcasing each week…
The British - Week 1 (31st July – 6th August)
Chapel Down Winery - Curious IPA 5.6% abv - This balanced but powerfully hoppy India Pale Ale is brewed using the finest pale ale malt and three complimentary hops. A spicy blackcurrant beauty and finish with a touch of extremely clean fresh Citra hop, for quenching zestiest refreshment.
BrewDog Punk IPA 5.6% abv - This fresh, full flavor natural beer is our tribute to the classic IPAs of yester-year. The postmodern twist is the addition of amazing fruity hops giving an explosion of tropical fruit flavors and a sharp bitter finish.
Wychwood - Hobgoblin 5.2% abv -Pale, chocolate and crystal malts; English Fuggles and Styrian Goldings hops. Hobgoblin is a powerful full-bodied copper red, well-balanced brew. Strong in roasted malt, with a moderate hoppy bitterness, and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.
The Americans - Week 2 (7th August – 13th August)
Brooklyn Brewery – Brooklyn Lager 5.2% abv - Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards.
Anchor Brewing – Anchor California Lager 4.9% abv - Golden color, distinctive aroma, creamy head, balanced depth of flavor, and smooth finish make Anchor California Lager a delicious celebration of California’s unique brewing heritage.
Sixpoint – Bengali 6.6%abv- The enhanced Sixpoint IPA formulation first released in the summer of 2014 and uses a blend of new hop strains for a juicy, citrusy, piney hop slashing.
The Europeans - Week 3 (14th August – 20th August)
Timmermans – Strawberry 4% abv - Taste of strawberry, some wheat, slight yeast and subtle tartness. Light bodied and a slick texture. A sweet, strawberry finish.
Chimay - Chimay Gold 4.8% abv - The Chimay Gold, which is brewed in the heart of Scourmont Abbey, was for long reserved for the monastic community and its guests and staff. Now you can enjoy it’s refreshing aromas of hops and spice.
Brauerei Tucher Brau - Tucher Helles Hefe Weizen 5.35% abv - Bright, with natural yeast cloudiness. By the special selection added and the patented brewing procedure. A high taste stability is ensured.
The Locals - Week 4 (21st August – 27th August)
Sonnet 43 – Impressment 5.4% abv - Forceful with American hops
Maxim – Double Maxim 4.7% abv - Double Maxim is brewed using Maris Otter & Crystal Malts and English Golding Aroma Hops. It delivers a mouth of full and rounded flavor that is well balanced and smooth and leaves a pleasant and lingering and slightly sweet aftertaste.
Roger Protz described it as "an undoubted classic. It is a fine example of North East brown ale. It is a good balance of ripe grain and spicy hops, with a long bittersweet finish."
Firebrick Brewery – Pagan Queen 4% abv - Refreshing but dry blonde bitter, all the way from Blaydon.
