An opportunity to hear from world-renowned mountaineer Andy Cave.
Andy looks back on his remarkable life and incredible journey from 3000 feet underground in the Yorkshire coalfields to the summit of some of the world’s highest mountains.
Andy left school at 16 to follow family tradition and work in a coal mine. The Miners’ Strike in 1984 gave him the time to explore climbing on the local Peak District crags. His passion for climbing grew and within three years he had succeeded on the infamous north face of the Eiger.
Leaving the coalmines behind, Andy has since become one of the world’s most distinguished mountaineers – summiting the globe’s most challenging mountains. Now with a PhD in linguistics, he has two award-winning books Learning to Breathe and Thin White Line to his name. His story of an ordinary boy growing up to achieve incredible things has inspired many.
