Shopwatch scheme appoints new chairman

Shopwatch is a national scheme which sees local businesses, in partnership with local police, report on criminal activity in cities and raise awareness of preventative techniques and resources.

In Durham, the scheme has been a great success and we’re pleased to report a new chairman has been appointed to oversee the continued prevention of crime throughout shops and other outlets across the city centre.

Andrew Lockey, the new chairman of Shopwatch, said: “I intend to streamline communication within the group, creating a central communication hub of a unified Shopwatch email and closed Facebook group.

“I plan to introduce the Shopwatch group and its role to more businesses throughout Durham, highlighting its benefits as I believe every business has the right to security and safety, and is therefore entitled to this information.”

To help keep BID businesses up to date with Shopwatch activity throughout the city, we will be introducing a regular feature in the BID Picture newsletter each month. Remember, if you aren’t already a member of the group and are interested in joining the Shopwatch scheme, you can email ambassador@durhambid.co.uk for further information or contact Andrew on andrew_lockey@hotmail.co.uk
