Were you in Durham last weekend to see the Christmas Lights Switch On? We hope you had a wonderful time watching our special snowman spread festive cheer across the City and light the tree in the Market Place with the help of a little magic!
While we’re now feeling thoroughly throughout festive across the City (as the song goes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas), we’re really excited to tell you about the next event in our exciting line-up as part of our Christmas InDurham programme.
On Thursday 7th December at 6.15pm, join us again for one of Durham’s most special open-air events… that’s right, the much-loved and hugely popular family-friendly Live Nativity is coming back to the City – complete with real camels too!
The event will see parishioners from St Nicholas’ Church re-enact the greatest story ever told, with the Market Place becoming a stage upon which the story of the first Christmas will be brought to life!
With shepherds bearing gifts and wise men making their grand entrance on camels to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, it’s set to be a fun, festive and a thoroughly feel-good event for all the family to enjoy.
Christmas is a time to come together and make special memories with your loved ones. The Live Nativity is just another reason to wrap up warm, come into Durham, and snuggle up next to your family and friends, as you enjoy the festivities unfold around you.
It’s also the season of goodwill, and we must say an extra special thanks to Reverend Arun Arora, Brian Hill and the congregation at St Nicholas’ church for their on-going support in what we believe is one of the North East’s largest outdoor Nativity events.
Rehearsals have been going well and everyone involved is really looking forward to the live performance on the night. If you’re looking for things to do in Durham this Christmas, we really do hope you’ll put this on your ‘must see’ list. After all, Durham is such a beautiful City and we couldn’t think of a better back drop to stage our rendition of the Nativity. It’s going to be very special indeed.
Remember, the Live Nativity is totally free to attend. However, due its popularity over previous years, we’d recommend you arrive early in the Market Place to secure a spot where you’ll be able to see all the action unfold around you. Even better, why not make an afternoon of it? Come in to Durham, enjoy a bite to eat and a spot of Christmas shopping before finishing off your day with the performance?
We’re really looking forward to welcoming you in to Durham and hope to see you at the Live Nativity soon!
