Comics set to shake up Christmas with Comedians and Carols at Durham Cathedral

Think you know the all the traditional Christmas carols? Well, it might just be time for you to think again, as a unique evening of comedy and cheeky Christmas verse comes to Durham Cathedral, courtesy of four of the country's best comedians.

They may not exactly be three wise men, but Comedians and Carols with Lloyd Griffith, Andy Kind, Allan Finnegan and Stephen Cookson promises to be a wholly (not to mention holy) entertaining way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Taking place just seven days before Christmas and part of the Christmas InDurham programme of events, Comedians and Carols is a family-friendly evening of comedy and reimagined carols that is sure to bring a warming smile to the cold winter night of 18th December. And where could possibly be better to host this heavenly slice of comedy than the majestic Durham Cathedral?

So, who are the four comedians bringing the gift of laughter this Christmas? A seasoned compere and comedy author, Andy Kind will be acting as master of ceremonies. He's joined by Lloyd Griffith, who has performed two solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe to rave reviews (we're told he also has an impressive singing voice thanks to a past life as a choirboy), and Nando's New Comedian of the Year 2015 Runner-up Stephen Cookson, who is already being tipped for big things. Finally, Allan Finnegan is not only Hot Water Comedy Club Comedian of the Year 2015, he's also a Baptist minister who got into comedy after dealing with hecklers at his day job at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Merseyside.

As you can see, Comedians and Carols has lined up a fantastic bill that is not to be missed.

Of course, there is plenty going on in Durham City aside from the Comedians and Carols performance, and in fact you could come to Durham early and easily fill your day before the show starts. Why not follow the Christmas Digital Trail, which offers a unique experience for little ones and grown-ups alike? Simply take a photo of one of the six special posters found around the City using the Zappar app (available on android and iOS devices), and you'll see Santa and other Christmas characters such as reindeer and a snowman appear to spread festive joy.
If it's Christmas shopping you're after, then don't forget that your InDurham Loyalty Card will give you access to exclusive discounts, deals and special offers at participating businesses throughout the City. There are also plenty of top quality bars, cafés, restaurants and eateries where you can whet your whistle and fill your stomach before the belly laughs start at the Cathedral.

You can buy your tickets to Comedians and Carols online and cost £15 for adults and £12.50 for children and concessions. We’re looking forward to seeing you there and sharing some festive cheer together!
