We are delighted that businesses and organisations in Durham City Centre have made their voices heard and voted in favour of taking more control over their futures by setting up a Business Improvement District. The favourable ballot was announced on October 21st, 2012 and the BID will run for a 5 year term.
The BID is funded by a 1.5% levy, the proceeds of which will be invested in the city centre and on the additional projects that businesses have identified as set out in the Durham BID Business Plan. In the next 5 years, over £1.5 million will be generated and spent across Durham City.
The Durham Business Improvement District Company (Durham BID) works to support businesses within Durham City Centre, through their marketing and communication activities, to attract local visitors. It also engages with people living within a 30 minute drive-time of the city, encouraging them to view the BID district as their service centre of choice, in turn increasing consumer footfall and therefore supporting the local economy.
